what is Marma in ayurveda
Marma in Ayurveda refers to vital energy points within the body where physical and subtle energy converge. These points, often compared to acupuncture points in Chinese medicine, are considered crucial for maintaining health and well-being. The concept of Marma is rooted in the belief that these junctures are sensitive areas where various tissues, nerves, veins, and joints meet.
According to Ayurvedic texts, there are 107 major Marma points in the body that are interconnected by a network of subtle channels known as nadis. Stimulating these points through Marma therapy is believed to promote the flow of prana or life force throughout the body, aiding in the healing process and harmonizing the mind, body, and spirit. Practitioners of Marma Chikitsa employ gentle pressure, massage, and herbal oils on these points to help rebalance the body’s energy and restore health.
